Happy Birthday Markus!

My eldest son will be 30 years old on Saturday and he has already made plans to party all night long in San Diego, where he lives.

While he reminds me that I am one of the "Golden Girls", I'm happy to point out to him that he is no longer one of the "90210" kids but more like "Grumpy Old Men." (lol!) I sent him this card that show cases one of the signature images he draws for me for Tellen's Place Designs. Edward is giving his sister, Ally a gift - how sweet.

I used paper I got in a RAK from Jude, who lives in the UK. She sent me those beautiful roses too, not to mention the scalloped circle. Isn't she sweet? I'm going to talk hubby into letting me splurge and get the Sizzix machine so I can send her some goodies too! (Yep, that's my excuse for getting that puppy). ;p

I'm entering this card into A Spoon Full of Sugar's challenge, which is to use distress ink (I inked the sentiment oval and the top banner with the birthday ribbon), stickles (on Ally's shoes and bow) and pearls. I've not entered a challenge in ages. So, this was a nice break from the usual hump and grind.

I know Markus will like it - I hope you do too.

Thanks for stopping by. (Edited post: Okay, photos added - see this is what happens when you schedule a post and forget to go back and add the photos! *sigh*)

Sweet Wednesday

Sweet Sketch Wednesday is here - woohoo! Isn't it fabulous to have such a sweet day come around with wonderful prizes and fun challenges?

The sketch this week, designed by our fabulous DT boss, Arlana, is sugary delicious! How sweet it is (as Jackie Gleason always quipped):

Guess what? SSW is being sponsored by My Grafico - what a sweet deal! If you've never been there, you'll just love this place. It's a digital arts and crafts store filled with all the things you'll love to want! ;p

For my card, I have this cute little owl in a hot air balloon - up, up and away...

I added some metallic buttons and a simple sentiment but I had to add stickles somewhere, now didn't I? I thought it was so cute - my aunt in San Diego will love it - she collects owls. I think she'll like this card.

The rest of the lovely DT at Sweet Sketch Wednesday has been busy designing some really cool cards using these images from My Grafico. Why not stop by and take a look; even join the challenge - it's so much sweet fun when you do!

Have a sweet day!

Chinese New Year Celebration!

Glue, Scissors, Paper has given the design team a challenge for the purpose of Chinese New Year which begins on February 14th - it is the year of the Tiger! We are to create a paper lantern.

I found an easy tutorial on You Tube and it reminded me that when I was a child going to school in San Francisco, we actually made one of these from plain old construction paper. Isn't that funny? I couldn't remember until I actually watched the video and started making my sample.

First, I used plain paper and followed along with the tutorial. Then, I used origami paper that I had in my stash to make the real deal. I added card stock on the borders and the handle, some ribbon and some bows.

This is the back view. Isn't the metallic butterfly cute?

Please excuse the backdrop and wooden spoon. I guess my embellishments were too heavy for the purple one because it kept falling forward like some drunk. I could not find a nice backdrop at all so...this will have to do.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I had fun making them. I love the challenges at GSP and I'm sure you will too. Hop on over and check out what my other DT pals have made - they are really fantastic! I hope you'll give it a try.

The Year I was Born

Good morning fellow bloggers,

All About Me has a new challenge and they want you to do a scrap page based on the year you were born. I couldn't resist, of course.

The funny thing about this layout is I can remember things from the '60's but 1958 had some interesting things going on:

Michael Jackson and Madonna were born that same year; The peace symbol was created to protest against atomic weapons research (yeah, that stopped 'em), a gallon of gas was 25 cents (what a difference a millennium makes, eh?), Elvis was inducted into the army (and still managed to sing), the Hula Hoop was introduced, the average new home only costs $12k, soup was 10 cents a can, steak was 55 cents a pound and Little Richard was singing, "Good Golly, Miss Molly." What really caught my eye was that The Microchip (yes, the one that makes our pc's work) was first developed by....Intel. How cool is that?

While you're browsing over there at All About Me, check out what the design team came up with as they will inspire you to stamp your year. I love the different elements they used. They're so creative over there!

Happy Scrapping! :p

Sweets to the Sweet...

Good morning!

It's another beautiful Wednesday and that brings out the "sweet sketch" in me. *smile* Yes, it's Sweet Sketch Wednesday and Arlana has given us another fine sketch that will make you smile.

This week, Sweet Sketch Wednesday is being sponsored by the Digi Stamp Boutique. I just love these sweet little images! With these kinds of images, I don't know that I'll have to ever venture down the rubber stamp aisle again! When you get a minute, stroll down there and check it out for yourself. The prize is $10 worth of digital images there - that's a prize worth winning!

I've inked up my image, Chirpy, with Copics. I used various papers to complete the sketch and added a cute distressed Daisy that my friend Lisa from the UK sent me (along with some cool other goodies I've been using here and there). That great big lime green brad came from a prize I won over at Design Dollies last month. How cool is that?

So, sit back, relax and let your mouse scroll over to the sidebar where you'll find my team mates' blogs so you can see what gorgeous creations they've come up with. They won't disappoint, I promise!

Have a berry sweet day, as Arlana likes to say. ;~)

Sweet Day Wednesday

Today's a sweeter day than yesterday because it's Sweet Sketch Wednesday!

Arlana has another fabulous sketch for you. It's really easy too, don't you think?

Our sponsor this week is Soft Pencil Digital Stamps and the prize is a $10 voucher for any of her digital images . Wouldn't you love to win that scrumptious goody? I encourage you to visit the sweet shop because you'll find some really sugarlicious digital images there!

I chose papers from DCWV because they always match up perfectly. You see the subdued green and blue mixed together for a subtle kind of grayish green. But the blue is in there, so I colored little cutie here (I love bears so much) with Copics to go with the paper, adhered sheer ribbon and ink distressed the sentiment.

While you're over at Sweet Sketch Wednesday, don't forget to check out the other DT's creations as they are fabulous! You will certainly be inspired to play along. I'd love to see what you made.

Have a berry sweet day! ;p

It's that time again...time for another challenge at Glue, Scissors, Paper.

This challenge is GROOVY! Why is that? Well, there's a special day coming up and so many will have dozens of roses bestowed upon them and hefty boxes of chocolate will be waiting for them. So, the challenge this week at GSP is to make a Valentine's project without using the colors pink, white or red.

I felt bad for King Mufasa because whenever I am doing an "All About Me" challenge, he thinks he is supposed to be on the scrap page too. So, I thought about him for this project. He is, after all, my love. I kept it simple with papers that do all the work - has phrases on it like "One of a kind", "Bona Fide", "Singular sensation", "Authentic" -- you know all the words that make that certain King Mufasa stand out from all the others. I distressed the blue paper, added dew drops, punched out some blue hearts, and even added paper to some of the chipboard letters.

Now, while you're over at Glue, Scissors, Paper, check out the rest of the DT's crafty projects as they will inspire you to do things you didn't think were possible! Oh, this is true, y'all!

Sweet Sketch #35

How sweet it is.......... remember that...well, today is Sweet Sketch Wednesday and Arlana has given us a sweet sketch - how sweet is that? Mmmmmm...sugary delicious! I love the layers.

This week we are sponsored by The Stamping Boutique. What a gallery of beautiful digital stamps for you to enjoy. The prize for this week's challenge is 3 FREE digi images - sounds like a delicious deal, doesn't it?

I love fairies and had to ink this little doll up in pink and purple - she's so cute. I love how the top of her swing is a butterfly - how cute is that? She's all sparkly because that's her fairy dust in the air - you know all fairies have fairy dust. The lace at the bottom is fabric and the Prima flower has a dew drop in the center. I embossed the centerpiece with my Cuttlebug because the white space was too stark and then I ink distressed the edges with eggplant.

Wouldn't you like to join our challenge and have a chance at this lovely prize. There are so many delicious digi's to choose from! Check out Sweet Sketch Wednesday and give it a try. I'd love to see what you do with the sketch. If you need inspiration, the rest of the design team have beautiful samples that really stand out; absolutely gorgeous creations! Give it a try. :~p

Happy Wednesday!
